The "Wise Life" series has captivated K-Drama fans through "Prison Playbook" and "Hospital Playlist". They offer a multitude of heartwarming moments that stay with you well after the drama is over. Although the two stories took place in different settings, the general healing sentiment was still present in both. Following the worldwide success of "Hospital Playlist", spin-off series "Resident Playbook" has premiered to immense praise, surpassing critics and audience expectations.

"Resident Playbook" follows a group of first year OB-GYN residents at the Jongno branch of Yulje Medical Center. These budding medical professionals hope to go further down the path of becoming full-fledged doctors. This passionate yet rambunctious group is played by four rising stars: Go YounJung, Shin SiA, Kang YouSeouk, and Han YeJi. Then there's Jung JunWon who plays their reliable senior resident. Opposed to the cast in "Hospital Playlist", their repertoire is still small yet growing, already showcasing such immense promise in just a few episodes.

Although a spin-off, "Resident Playbook" does have its own standalone moments that viewers just can't get enough of.

The Continuing Allure Of Medical Dramas

The success rate of medical K-Dramas have remained consistently high for years. This is evident in their ratings, clip view counts, and netizen engagement across forum sites and social media platforms. Medical series are one of the few that have shown that multiple season K-Dramas work. From "Dr. Romantic" to "Hospital Playlist", the characters had something special that sparked mass viral success, not only South Korea, but across the rest of the globe. In addition to the characters having such polarizing personalities, the intensity in every surgery and the wellbeing of patients kept viewers glued to their seats, curious to see how they pulled through.

These multi-season medical series have gained a dedicated fanbase that have only grown over the years. Being a spin-off of "Hospital Playlist" certainly helps "Resident Playbook" in the fan department, drawing upon the countless supporters of its predecessor. There are characters and storylines that are relatively new, however, the tvN series draws upon its foundations to make another amazing medical K-Drama. Additionally, they have brought back iconic characters such as Kim JunWan (played by Jung KyungHo) and Chu MinHa (played by Ahn EunJin) to make cameo appearances, drawing upon the nostalgia of longtime supporters.

Medical dramas are not without their faults, however, as there have been criticisms about these shows overly romanticizing hospital working conditions. Regardless, medical series have built up quite the positive reputation that K-Drama fans hold in high regards. With how great this genre has done in the past, and more specifically the success of "Hospital Playlist", "Resident Playbook" looks to follow down this path and become another great medical K-Drama by the end of its run.
