One of the most celebrated, well-made, and critically acclaimed C-Dramas of all time, "Go Ahead" has been confirmed to be getting a K-Drama adaptation, and fans all over the world are overjoyed. For those who might not know, "Go Ahead" is a beautifully poignant and heart-fluttering romantic comedy/slice of life and found family drama that follows three young people from incomplete or dysfunctional households who find solace in each other's embrace. The drama redefines the concept of "family" and will leave you with a warm and fuzzy feeling inside.
At the time of writing, rising actors Jung ChaeYeon and Hwang InYoup are in talks to lead the Korean remake, which has been titled "A Prefabricated Family". Keep reading for a detailed breakdown of the characters they will be playing if they accept the offer!
1. Jung ChaeYeon - Li JianJian
Li JianJian stands at the centre of the universe in "Go Ahead". She is a bright, brave, and optimistic young girl who lost her mother at a young age. She is the only child of her parents and longs for a brother. JianJian is straightforward and never gets intimidated by things like societal pressures. She knows how to stand up for herself and others, even if it comes at the cost of her own safety. JianJian is extremely fond of her father and wishes for his happiness at all costs, so she encourages him to see other women and explore romantic opportunities. Having grown up with essentially two dads and two "brothers", JianJian is a little tomboyish, and it gets her family into some awkward situations but she brushes them off because it's nothing unusual to her, and this quality adds charm to her character. She is not studious but has a knack for sculpting so she pursues her passion. JianJian is incredibly protective of her family, but when they are separated for a long time to focus on their careers, she finds it hard to go back to things as they were.
2. Hwang InYoup - Ling Xiao
Ling Xiao is a young boy who moves into the apartment above JianJian's. However, it soon becomes evident that the family is constantly quarreling, which causes Ling Xiao to become lonely and reserved. It is soon revealed that a tragic accident in the past involving his baby sister still haunts his mother, who holds Ling Xiao responsible for her death. So, he beats himself up for his family's condition. JianJian notices his grief and tries her best to befriend him, luring him in with the offer of warm meals at her house. One day, Ling Xiao's mother decides to leave the family, separating from her husband, but when Ling Xiao gets left behind, JianJian asks his mother if she can take him in as her brother. From then on, Ling Xiao becomes JianJian's family, and their fathers grow from neighbors to brothers.
Another major character in the C-Drama is He ZiQiu, played by Steven Zhang. He ZiQiu's mother was set up with JianJian's father, but before they could get married, she ran away, leaving little ZiQiu in JianJian's father's care. Days turned to years, and his mother didn't return, but Jian Jian's father raised him like his own son, even though his daughter didn't get along with him at first. Together, JianJian, Xiao, and ZiQiu became each other's family, facing the world hand in hand. However, despite growing up as almost siblings, Ling Xiao and He ZiQiu fall in love with JianJian and are forced to confront their feelings for her, especially as their mothers come back into their lives.
All three main characters in the C-Drama are equally important, but since no casting news has been released for the character of He ZiQiu yet, we chose six actors/idols who we think would be perfect for the role.
