"Peak Time" - JTBC's Latest Idol Survival Show Is Exactly What The K-Pop Industry Needs

2023 is turning out to be the year of survival shows, with a whole new flux of talented aspirants taking on the challenge of fulfilling their idol dreams. With the aim of birthing the future of K-Pop, these shows are giving young dreamers the platform to launch their careers on a stable foundation, supported by the love of fans all over the world. In this competitive sphere of novelty, one show is turning the focus in the opposite direction - "Peak Time".

 

About "Peak Time"

For those who might not know, "Peak Time" is JTBC's latest offering in the competition show category that features existing idol boy groups who are looking for their claim to fame. The show is hosted by superstar Lee SeungGi and the esteemed panel of judges includes SUPER JUNIOR's KyuHyun, Jay Park, Girls' Generation's Tiffany Young, HIGHLIGHT's Lee GiKwang, INFINITE's Kim SungKyu, performance director Shim JaeWon, songwriter/producer Ryan Jhun and WINNER's MiNo, who has now stepped down and has been replaced by MAMAMOO's MoonByul due to scheduling conflicts.

The 23 participating groups, who were selected after auditions, are divided into three sections - Rookies, Booster, and Pause and each group is assigned an hour of the day. In addition, a hidden section for solo artists (1-member teams) who could not join the show with their respective groups due to reasons such as disbandment, or otherwise will also compete to join Team 24:00 - a project group that will be formed by the judges.
