"Heartbeat" revolves around the vampire, Son WooHyul (Ok TaecYeon), who desires to become a human to experience a human-like love that make his heart race. However, he ultimately fails due to being woken up one day too early. He meets modern lady, Joo InHae (Won JiAn), who shows no passion or concern towards him. InHae only worries about her own survival and how she'll get through to the following day.

Almost at the halfway point, "Heartbeat" has proven to have everything you would want out of a romantic comedy. There's absolutely no end to the side-splitting laughter and swarm of butterflies that this drama provides. We looked all over the land of Korean entertainment, watching various episodes and clips, but we could not get this scene from "Heartbeat" out of our heads. So let's dive right in!

Warning: this article contains spoilers.

The Build Up

Heading into this week's romantic pick, through her father, Joo InHae has inherited a mysterious mansion that she didn't know previously existed. When she steps foot inside, InHae naturally starts to explore the many rooms. She comes across the coffin which housed Son WooHyul for decades. She's able to push the coffin open, thus waking WooHyul from his slumber โ€” albeit one day early. Due to this sudden awakening, his dreams of becoming a human are shattered and after a few events, the two begin living together.

At first, they are shown to be at odds with one another. Everything from their personalities and way of living seem to clash at every moment. But Joo InHae quickly asserts her dominance over Son WooHyul. Her fiery personality causes our male protagonist to remain on his toes at all times. While the two show a conflict of interest, as time goes on they naturally spend more time together and help each other in various situations.

The Romance

After a series of events, they end up working at the same school with InHae as the school nurse and WooHyul as the custodian. While they refute any claims of being in a romantic relationship, they still continue to support one another. This support eventually leads InHae to defend WooHyul from being falsely accused of a crime he did not commit. While she does a good deed, the principal continues to find fault in her, labels her as a troublemaker, and thus concludes to terminate her contract early, leaving InHae jobless.

This news leaves Joo InHae rightfully disheartened and causes her to seek some much needed alone time. She spends a good portion of the night at a wine bar, trying her best to curb her sorrows with food and drinks. For anyone who has gone through a hard time, it's an unbelievably relatable scene that hits every part of your soul.

She eventually arrives home to a nagging WooHyul. But as he assesses the situation and learns of her predicament and family history, he grows sympathetic towards our female lead. In the end, he gently strokes her head and utters the words, "You're doing great. Although you were alone, you stayed strong. It's admirable and I'm proud of you." Romance comes in many forms, and sometimes, the most comforting of words and gestures can send an unstoppable swarm of butterflies to appear in our chest.

The Happily Ever After

As Son WooHyul shares these words of encouragement, Joo InHae looks up in disbelief. Then, in true drama fashion, a single tear falls from her eye. The entire scene is touching and heartfelt, causing many to yearn for a moment just like that. Their relationship has obviously improved since the first time they met. And while they haven't confessed to one another, their feelings are slowly growing into something more. With over half a drama left to play out, we cannot wait for Son WooHyul and Joo InHae to realize how they truly feel and pursue each other with an open heart.
