With the production rate of Korean BL dramas increasing at a rapid pace, it is clear that many drama creators and producers have seen the vivid interest of global fans in the genre, an interest that has been reflected in the popularity and ratings of many dramas released in the genre since 2020 till today. The growth of the K-BL genre has been vivid as by 2022, there had been a record of 5 times more production than its kick-off year in 2020. And with the increasing rate at which more BL have been released so far this year, we can only see those numbers continuing to increase.
However, the growth of the genre is not just reliant on the fact that it is from Korea but on the interest of global viewers, who despite their applauding and appreciation of the increase in the production rate of this themed series, also call for the increase in its quality, with regards to storyline, chemistry, cinematography, and romantic scenes.
In line with this, Kpopmap hosted a global survey, asking fans of the Korean BL genre to share their opinions on the genre and the ways in which it can improve. The survey ran from the 17th to the 26th of April and recorded 1,649 responses from participants in over 84 countries. We already have the first part of the survey report, which shows the demographic and tastes about BLs of the global respondents. You can read the full article below.
