One defining allure of K-Dramas is the fact that they are over within one season. However, there are special cases when a K-Drama reaches critical acclaim and continues for multiple seasons. "Hospital Playlist" is one of those series, earning worldwide recognition due to its incredible storytelling, amazing cast and their chemistry, along with its balance of intense medical procedures and comforting slice-of-life moments. The series made waves over the course of two seasons and it is now back with a spin-off, "Resident Playbook". It takes viewers into the department of obstetrics and gynecology, a setting that was once visited 15 years prior.
Will "Resident Playbook" Be Able To Continue The Legacy Of Its Predecessor?K-Drama StoriesApr 25, 2025
In the Jongno branch of Yulje Hospital, four first-year OB-GYN residents, along with their trustworthy chief resident, strive to become full-fledged doctors. While eager and passionate, they are still learning the ropes, making them prone to mistakes and mishaps. Despite this, they do have their very own shining moments where they are praised for their dedication and hard work. As if to truly capture the essence of budding medical professionals, they are portrayed by rising stars, Go YounJung, Shin SiA, Kang YouSeok, and Han YeJi. And acting as the sturdy pillar, a.k.a. chief resident, is Jung JunWon.
While "Resident Playbook" will draw comparisons to its predecessor, it is slowly developing into a standout piece that everyone can get behind. Part of the show's success certainly lies on the shoulders of Go YounJung, as she plays one of the central figures in the drama, Oh YiYoung. Through this show, the actress continues to cement her status as a rising star in the world of K-Entertainment.
From Fantasy To ER: Go YounJung's Growing Acting Range
Considering Go YounJung's successful career and her ability to land impactful roles, it's hard to believe that she is only just getting started. While she's able to command any scene like a veteran, the star made her official acting debut in 2019 through a supporting role in the drama "He Is Psychometric". She quickly proved that she was more than a pretty face with her excellent execution in both line delivery and how she portrayed her character. Seeing her performance, both critics and fans grew curious as to what she could accomplish if she were given time to improve in future roles.
While she did work on one feature film, "Hunt" in 2022, Go YounJung focused on developing her presence in the K-Drama scene. Through her tireless efforts, she was able to consistently appear on screen every year since her debut. She slowly built up her repertoire with hit series like "Sweet Home" and "Law School", proving that she's an actress everyone should be keeping their eyes on. It wasn't until "Alchemy of Souls: Light and Shadow", which aired from December 2022 to January 2023, that Go YounJung was able to hold the sole title of female lead. In a drama that explored a combination of historical elements and fantasy, Go YounJung was able to masterfully pilot her character of Naksu, part trained assassin, part impromptu comedian. She nailed the more serious scenes, but also provided audiences with a healthy helping of smiles and laughter. This would only be the start of Go YounJung's upward trajectory.
She continued riding on the momentum and was able to have a breakout performance through award-winning series "Moving". In many ways, this became her statement piece, firmly cementing the actress as a rising actress in every sense of the word. Following the success of the drama, Go YounJung was nominated for and won several awards for her moving performance. From the Female Actress Rising Star award at "First Brand Awards 2024" to Best Rookie Actress at the "3rd Blue Dragon Series Awards", Go YounJung's name was starting to become recognized on a wider, more global scale.
Now, she stands in front of audiences as a first-year resident. Through all of her roles, we're able to witness a versatility in the actress that can at times be hard to come by. Go YounJung shows by example that she is able to not only land these roles through hard work and numerous auditions, but she's able to deliver each and every time.
