An artist this generation has been waiting for (quite literally), Emily Mei, has officially made her musical debut with "My Domain". The singer-songwriter, actress, businesswoman, model, and overall, artistic stunner, Emily, collaborated with CLC's Sorn and Amber Liu to create this experimental pop track incorporating elements of vocaloid EDM, dance-pop, anisong, K-Pop, glitch-hop, and more, accompanied by a cinematic masterpiece of a music video. Both the music video and the song itself, are reminiscent of cyberpunk science-fiction and mecha anime. Behind it all, there's a strong message that resonates universally: standing in your own power will make the world kneel before you.
Emily does an incredible job at putting the message across and at the same time, allowing the creative process to have a similar effect on her. Hinting at the ubiquity of "MEI", Emily says, "I wrote this song to remind myself and others that you don’t need anyone else to be complete, you don’t need anyone who hurts you, and you are powerful on your own. I feel like everyone has a ‘MEI’ inside them, a darker side they don’t usually show to others, a side that sometimes takes over when times are tough. I hope people watch our journey and feel a release, feel like they have someone to relate to".
What makes this debut even more special and as a matter of fact, surprising, is that it is entirely an independent project. When her debut looks and sounds this good, we cannot begin to imagine what Emily Mei could have in store for us next.
