The 5th generation of K-Pop began in early to mid 2023 after many entertainment firms credited their new debuts as leading acts of new-gen idols. These claims were discussed, challenged, and eventually accepted by many industry insiders and critics. A major reason being the significant rise of virtual idols in the years followed by global pandemic.

While it is still difficult to pinpoint what makes the 5th generation any different from their predecessors; one can assume that the answer remains in the integration of new-age technologies.

Each generation of K-Pop has witnessed an inseparable blending of the latest technology with music creation and consumption. This includes cassette tapes, CDs, streaming apps, to the popularity of short-form media platforms like TikTok. Following the same trend, we can predict that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is likely to be utilised by the 5th generation of K-Pop.

Generative AI's involvement in the production and promotion of K-Pop is undeniable but its identification is far more complicated than what meets the eye. Oftentimes when fans suspect the involvement of AI in the music videos or promo pictures, what they are pointing out is the futuristic technological elements in the art— which could easily be created through digital editing to specifically look like virtual reality.
