Now is a fantastic time to be in Seoul, South Korea, as the city celebrates Buddha's birthday with Yeondeunghoe or the Lotus Lantern Festival. It is one of the largest and most vibrant Buddhist celebrations in Korea. This weekend, the Seoul sky will be illuminated with around 100,000 lotus lanterns, creating a dream-like skyscape that is unlike anything you've seen before.

The event is organized by the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism and is recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Last week. this Lotus Lantern Festival started off with a grand opening ceremony marked by the lighting up of an extraordinary pagoda lantern modeled after the Nine-story Wooden Pagoda of Hwangryongsa, symbolizing peace of mind and happiness of the world, according to the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism.
